French Song and Round

Vocal - Shelley Ambury

Learnt from Marianne Tertrais

Recording used with kind permission from Vocal Union

Popular Christmas melody in mixolydian mode; simple words for childrens' circle dance, with actions. The children tap their feet, clap hands, nod heads. Between the verse is a La la la.. chorus that can be sung after the first section, creating simple two part harmony. A poetic translation to English is provided - one that fits the melody.  Visit the Vocal Union website for the literal translation, music score, ideas for singing in parts and with actions. Résonance Musicale has a lively ‘Francheville’ recording of the song, available as vocal and instrumental MP3 download.

Another Vocal Union Round is ‘I Heard a Bird Sing’ by Dave Camlin.
